To The Mom Who Thinks Homeschool Bloggers Have It All Together

I have heard it time and time again. Apparently the ever so helpful blogs we all love to read, and the ever so perfect Pinterest boards are causing moms everywhere to feel defeated and less than. The homeschoolers look like they have the perfect schedule going on for their kids. Their curriculum choices are flawless. Everyone is finished by 2:00 pm on the dot. They have immaculate homeschool rooms that are a designer’s dream.

Homeschool Bloggers Don't Have It All Together - TheJoyfulFamily.com

News Flash you are only seeing the highlights of the week. You aren’t seeing the behind the scenes of the day. You aren’t seeing that child throw a temper tantrum over having to do their math. You aren’t seeing the science project fall apart and become a huge mess. You aren’t seeing everyone running around in their jams come lunch time, or the fact that dinner is about to be on the table and we are scrambling to finish our grammar for the day.

Our homeschool is a day by day process. Are all of our days something that I want to write about? Um no! But, I don’t ever want a homeschool mom to give up because she feels she isn’t doing a good enough job. The job requirements for a homeschool mom do not require that we are perfect. Know that all those amazing homeschool bloggers have the same kind of days that you do. The days when they want to send everyone to bed and start fresh tomorrow.

Your homeschool may not look like mine, and mine doesn’t look like the next mom’s. We need to be confident in who we are and what God has called us to do in our homes. We can’t play the comparison game with our children’s learning needs. I hate to think that there are moms out there who felt they couldn’t keep up and so they quit. Every single one of us is equipped with everything we need to have a successful homeschool journey. The Holy Spirit. He is right there walking this journey with us.

He is really all we need. If the only thing I had to teach my children day in and day out is the Holy Spirit…I am confident in His ability. Knowing that He knows every little thing they need. So relax, stop comparing, and enjoy the greatest gift ever.

To The Mom Who Is Scared To Take The Homeschool Plunge…

Another school year is starting to wind down. It’s the time of year that parents all across the globe are starting to ponder what they will do this coming fall. The tug on your heart won’t go away. You *think* you might want to homeschool your children, but you are scared to death.

To the mom who is scared to take the homeschool plunge

What if I fail? What if I am a terrible teacher? What if they don’t learn enough? All those nagging and annoying questions start plaguing your mind. If you stop to think about it though, all of those questions are fear based questions. God doesn’t operate out of fear, he only operates out of love. So then who is it that is giving you all those thoughts? Could it be the one who is trying to hold you back from doing the greatest thing in the world for your kids?

What if….the age old question that we need to spin to a positive light! What if your children learn more than you ever thought imaginable? What if your family reaches a new level of closeness with each other and the Lord? What if homeschooling is the most amazing journey your ever decided to take?

See! Just stop and think of all the possibilities. 5 years ago I never imagined that our homeschool journey would be such an amazing part of our life. I knew in my heart it was something we were supposed to do. Sometimes, taking that plunge to begin is the hardest part. Cast the fear aside. Homeschooling, though not always easy, will be the most rewarding journey you will take. So take the plunge and dive on in. The waters great ;)

Where you scared when you first decided to homeschool? What made you overcome that fear?

To The Homeschool Mom Who Is Ready To Quit

You just finished the worst day on the books this year. The tears started at handwriting, and it went downhill from there. Trust me we have all had those days. The days when you are ready to march down to the local school and enroll your entire family. Wouldn’t that be so much easier anyway? Let someone else teach them, and you get them back for the fun times after school. The thought crosses your mind, but you know in your heart that would only make you miserable.

To The Homeschool Mom Ready to Quit

Why? Because, homeschooling is your  ministry. No, it may not be super glamorous all the time, and yes it is hard work. It takes commitment and dedication. It is your ministry, it is what you were called to do at this season in your life. Your children are the greatest gift that a mother could ever be given. Our children are a heritage of the Lord. He has given them to us to nurture, protect, and to train up in the way they should go. What is that way? To follow after God with their whole hearts, to strive to be absolutely great for Him.

Homeschooling will not always be easy, but the good far out weighs the bad. Getting to wake up and teach your child something new. Seeing their little eyes light up when they finally catch that concept they have been struggling with, that is the greatest gift. In that moment, you forget all the bad for a few minutes and see that what you are doing really is working.

So homeschool mom who is ready to quit….DON’T! What you are doing is a ministry. I know when the bad days come, I stop and remember that. It helps to know what I am doing really is worth the hard work.

I am sharing this on Titus Tuesday.
